McMinnville High School
Tigard High School
The Tigers got off to a quick start Wednesday in a final tune-up endowment contest with seventh ranked McMinnville. Lead off hitter Nick Heinke reached base on a McMinnville error. Heinke stole a base and was moved over on a ground ball by Parker Kuntz, and scored on another ground ball by C.J. Rivers.
The Grizzlies, winners of the Greater Valley Conference with a league record of 13-3, were able to come up with three runs of their own in the fourth and that was all they needed for the 3-2 victory.
Tigard had several chances to even the score with both Tiger catchers Parker Kuntz and Jared Stewart doubling down the left field line however neither was able to score.
Tigard did score one run of their own in the bottom of the fourth to set the table for another potential dramatic finish in the bottom of the seventh with C.J. Rivers. With the tying and winning runs on base, Rivers just missed dropping another walk off hit down the right field line however this time the ball dropped harmlessly on the foul side of the line.
Rivers eventually reached first on a walk to load the bases but that is where he remained as McMinnville was able to retire the final Tigard batter.
Next up for the Tigers will be the Centennial Eagles out of a strong Mt. Hood Conference in the first round of the 6A playoffs.
